Students develop ensemble rehearsal techniques, musical interpretation, listening skills, performance etiquette, and collaborative musicianship. Rehearsals focus on preparing quality repertoire while teaching students how to work effectively within a musical group. Performance opportunities throughout the year allow students to showcase their growth and accomplishments.
Teaching Methods & Learning Approach
Our Ensemble Programs emphasize musical collaboration and artistic growth through guided rehearsal experiences. Students learn to perform as part of a unified musical ensemble while developing the individual responsibility required of every successful musician.
Rehearsals are led by experienced conductors who focus on musical excellence, ensemble communication, and performance preparation. Students are taught how to follow a conductor, respond to musical cues, balance within the ensemble, and contribute confidently to the group’s overall sound.
Students who participate in ensembles are required to take private lessons to help them learn their individual parts and to help them reach a higher level of individual artistry.

Assessment & Progress Tracking
Student progress is evaluated through rehearsal participation, musical preparation, ensemble contribution, attendance, and performance readiness. Ensemble Director’s provide ongoing feedback to help students improve technical skills, musicianship, and ensemble awareness.
As students develop, they may be recommended for more advanced ensembles, leadership opportunities, chamber groups, solos, or additional performance experiences. Progress is measured not only by musical achievement but also by commitment, teamwork, and artistic growth.
Materials & What to Bring
Students should bring their instrument, music folder, pencil, and any assigned repertoire to each rehearsal. Consistent practice outside of rehearsals is encouraged to ensure steady progress and successful ensemble performances.
Additional materials may be provided by OCAM depending on the ensemble and performance season. Students are expected to arrive prepared, engaged, and ready to contribute positively to the ensemble experience.
Course Outcomes
Upon participation in an OCAM Ensemble Program, students will:

Performance Opportunities
Ensemble students may participate in seasonal concerts, community performances, special events, festivals, workshops, and collaborative performances throughout the year. These experiences provide students with meaningful opportunities to share their accomplishments while developing confidence and stage presence.
